Stephen Cranwell

Stephen

鈥淪tephen has always had a passion for science and worked as a technician at the John Innes Centre prior to studying Genetics at the University of Essex. Subsequently, Stephen obtained the Highly Skilled Workforce scholarship which allowed him to study an MSc in Biotechnology at the University of Edinburgh while also undertaking extracurricular projects in the 鈥淩egenerative Medicine鈥 module directed by Paul Travers (Centre for Regenerative Medicine).

After graduating Stephen worked at Charles River Laboratories as a Senior Analyst where he worked to develop and validate GxP studies for gene therapies, anti-sense oligonucleotide therapies, and biomarkers design. Looking to return to academia Stephen completed an MRes in the Biology of Ageing at University College London, where he also now tutors.

Currently, Stephen is working on understanding the cell non-autonomous roles of the senescence-associated secretory phenotype on the proteostasis network.

Outside of science, Stephen enjoys hiking and unnecessarily abusive exercise such as Spartan Race. His favourite film is Jurassic Park, as when you study the biology of ageing you really do realise 鈥渓ife finds a way鈥.
