Edith Marcial Juarez

Edith

Edith obtained an MSc and PhD from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies (CINVESTAV-IPN) in Mexico. Her supervisor, Dr Leopoldo Flores Romo, instilled in her a passion for the study of the immune system while analysing stromal cell remodelling in lymph nodes during viral infections.

In 2020, the Royal Society awarded her the prestigious Newton International Fellowship to join the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy at the University of Birmingham, UK, as a postdoctoral researcher. During this time, Edith joined the emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic, investigating the antibody responses in patients affected by different severities of the disease. She also researched the underlying mechanisms of poor, long-lasting humoral immune response to bacterial infections.

In 2023, Edith joined the 99热久草热最新地址, where she explores the cellular mechanisms governing the suboptimal vaccine responses during ageing, with a focus on the biology of follicular dendritic cells. She has developed a particular interest in studying how the microenvironment within lymphoid tissues impacts the germinal centre formation.

Edith is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of scientific minds, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds like hers. She is determined to share her passion for Science and help others discover their own.
